International Reggae Day: Celebrating the Global Heartbeat of Reggae
Every year on July 1, reggae lovers around the world come together to celebrate International Reggae Day—a worldwide celebration of Jamaica's incredible musical gift to the world.
Founded in 1994 by Jamaican broadcaster Andrea Davis, International Reggae Day was created to recognize reggae's cultural impact and its power to inspire, unite, and uplift people across borders. What began as a celebration in Jamaica has grown into a global movement, with artists, fans, radio stations, festivals, and communities honoring reggae's rich legacy every July 1.
Reggae is more than a genre of music. It's a voice for peace, justice, resilience, and unity. Its rhythms and messages have transcended language and geography, reminding us that music has the power to bring people together.
At Catcha Vibe, we're honored to carry that spirit here in Maine. For more than two decades, we've celebrated the music and positive energy that reggae represents, sharing it with audiences throughout New England and beyond.
Celebrate International Reggae Day with us on Wednesday, July 1, from 5:00–8:00 PM at Good Vibes Wednesday featuring Catcha Vibe and Fitzie Niceness at Thompson's Point in Portland, Maine. Enjoy an evening of classic roots reggae, ska, island grooves, dancing, and positive vibrations as we celebrate this music together.
Whether you've loved reggae your whole life or are just discovering it, we invite you to come share the rhythm, the community, and the good vibes.
One Love. One Rhythm. One Vibe.
Happy International Reggae Day!
